AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Obedience
AKC STAR PUPPY: 8 weeks to 6 months old. Gentle puppy training teaches essential social skills: Sit, Stay, Down, Come when called, and controlled walking. Other activities include: tunnels, small jumps, and other obstacles for puppies to master.

Our classes
Introduction To Obedience
BEGINNERS 1 (Introduction to Obedience): Dogs 6 months and older who have had no prior formal training. Ideal class for a newly rescued or adopted dog or for the first-time handler who has never trained before. Class designed to assist owners in training their dogs to have basic manners and socialization needed to become a good family pet. Class includes: basics of sit, down, walk nicely on leash, and a number of other useful exercises which will assist in the Beginners 2.

Beginning Obedience
BEGINNERS 2: Beginners 1 is recommended prior to taking this class. Handlers and dogs learn together basic training and proper methods for correcting unwanted behavior. Dogs are taught the proper heel position, automatic sits, sit/stay, down/stay, come when called, attention skills, and more. All exercises are done on lead.

Intermediate Obedience
INTERMEDIATE/CGC: This is the next step after Beginners 2. You will polish skills you and your dog learned: Proper heeling position, straight sits, attention, figure-8 heeling patterns and more successful at it and down stays with distractions. More social skills are taught including, greeting, grooming and a 3 minute out of sight from the owner which leads to a testing for CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certificate.
NOTE: Your dog must pass the Intermediate/CGC testing to take all other standard obedience, rally and agility classes.
Advance/CGC/CGCA Obedience
ADVANCED: Class is for handler/dog teams to build skills acquired from previous classes. The goal is to develop an attentive dog that responds correctly to the handler’s commands.
PRE-NOVICE: For the owner who wants a very well-behaved pet or is preparing to continue in obedience training while solidifying the fundamentals and time to mature. Successful completion of CGCA is required for this class.

Beginner Novice:
Owner who wants a well-behaved dog or has interest in showing in obedience trials. You will learn how to proof your dog for a steady performance, proper ring etiquette and how to sharpen your dog’s skills. Dogs will be introduced to off lead heeling. (Advanced must be completed before entering this class). Dog & handler teams that have perfected the skills taught in Beginner Novice class should be able to enter the “Beginner Novice Class” at obedience trials.
Novice Obedience
NOVICE OBEDIENCE: (Advanced obedience must be completed before entering this class). This is for the owner who wants a well-behaved pet or haws interest in showing in obedience trials. You will learn how to proof your dog’s heeling for a steady performance, ring etiquette, how to sharpen your dog’s skills. Dogs will perform off-lead for the dog and handler that have perfected the skills taught in Novice class and will be able to enter the “Novice Class” at obedience trials and earn their C.D. (Companion Dog Title).
Open Obedience
OPEN OBEDIENCE: For those working towards their C.D.X (Companion Dog Excellent) Title. Teams work at various levels, from introduction exercises to the exercises required to competitors trying to polish their skills.
Utility Obedience
UTILITY OBEDIENCE: Utility obedience is for those working towards their U.D. (Utility Dog) Title. Teams work at various levels and learn how to teach the exercises required for utility competition. This level will teach signal exercises (hand signals), scent articles, directed retrieve (gloves), moving stand and directed jumping.

Competitive Obedience Classes 2-sessions
Competitive Novice Obedience
This class is for those wanting to compete in the AKC Novice obedience class. This is for dogs that are wanting to learn and perfect the foundation exercises of obedience. We will work on the student’s footwork, placement of the dog, perfect turns and interaction with the dog in the ring. We will start with the basics of the exercises for both the dog and the handler.
Prerequisite: Advanced Obedience and/or Beginner Novice
Competitive Open Obedience
This class will prepare you to compete in the AKC Open obedience class. This is for dogs that are just beginning to learn the open exercises in order to compete. The class will teach the basics of each exercise and progress to the finished product. This is a TWO session course.
Prerequisite: Proficient in Novice Exercises
Competitive Utility Obedience
This class is for those who are actively working the Utility exercises. The class will help the handler perfect the skills for the dog and for themselves. This class will not teach the Utility exercises.
Therapy dog class
THERAPY DOG: Class designed to teach basic criteria needed to enable you and your dog to pass a Therapy Dog exam. These exams are available through several sources and passage of such an exam is required for you and your dog to participate as a Therapy Dog team. Prerequisite: Completion of the Intermediate level class.
Tricks Mix
TRICKS: Over 100 different tricks to learn and 5 levels in AKC Titles. Dog must have food motivation in order to succeed. A variety of tricks which will teach focus between you and your dog. Dogs will learn to reason and know that good behaviors will be rewarded.

Novice Rally
RALLY NOVICE: Class is available to students who have completed at least one Intermediate class or has exhibited handling skills and control of the dog that are equivalent. Class covers AKC rules and execution of each of the 31 Notice Rally exercises which are performed on leash. Pinch collars are discouraged but are permitted if necessary to maintain control of the dog.

Advanced / Excellent Rally
RALLY ADVANCE/EXCELLENT: Class for students which have completed at least one Novice Rally class. Novice exercises are not covered in Advanced Rally. It is assumed students already know them. All exercises are performed off leash, although leashes are permitted if necessary. Exercises in Advance/Excellent include 19 additional signs. Difficulty level of these exercises are considerably greater than Novice. One or two jumps are involved in each of the Advanced or Excellent Rally courses, as well as several pivots, heeling backwards, and other fun things!

Scent Work
Scent Work, AKA Nose Work, is a stimulating activity that engages your dog’s natural sense of smell. As a game your dog will use his nose to search for a favorite toy, food, or other item. As a competition sport, your dog will search for hides containing specific odors, such as Birch, or Cypress.
This mentally stimulating activity builds your dog’s confidence as it reduces stress and anxiety, and strengthens the bond between you and your dog. Scent work is a fun searching activity for virtually all dogs and people. It can be performed by dogs and people that are older or have some physical limitations. This activity builds confidence in shy or timid dogs, and helps high energy dogs learn how to focus.
Scent work is different from other dog sports in that the dog doesn’t require commands from the handler to know what to do. A team is built between the dog and handler: the dog must communicate to the handler when he has found a hide, and the handler must learn to detect what the dog is communicating.
Scent work is a game where the dog is immediately rewarded with a treat when he finds the hide. This reinforces his knowledge of the game and increases his desire to play some more.

Introduction To Scent Work
In this class you will learn the concepts of Scent Work and how to get your dog excited about searching by using food. This will help build the dog’s confidence, teach it how to problem solve, and show how the game is played.
The dog must wear a flat collar, martingale collar, or harness while searching. Bring a 6 to 8 ft. leash for searching and a 12 to 15 ft. leash for leash handling exercises. Your dog must be crated while not in the ring searching. Please bring a crate to class along with some yummy, non-crumbling treats for rewards.
The only requirements for attending this class is that the dog must be at least 6 months old and be able to be crated.

Introduction To Odor
The teams will continue building their searching skills with the Container and Interior elements. This class introduces two essential oils, Birch and Cypress. Students will learn how to prepare odor vessels and train their dogs to search for the odors.
Prerequisite for this class is a successfully completed ‘Introduction to Scent Work’ class. Bring crates for your dog and lots of small, non-crumbling, high-quality treats.
